In the electric circuit shown above, current flows from the negative
terminal of the battery, through the resistor, the ammeter, and back
into the positive terminal of the battery.
The electron flow in a series circuit may be compared to the fluid
flow in a hydraulic system as illustrated below.
In each circuit, the fluid or current has only one path to follow.
The battery in the electric circuit compares in action to the pump in
the hydraulic system. The resistors in the electric circuit compare
to the physical restrictions shown in the hydraulic system.
