In addition to the establishment of proper safeguards, all military personnel should receive, in
conjunction with intelligence training, instruction in equipment tagging, as well as the consequences of
failure to execute this responsibility. This responsibility must be clearly established by command SOP.
Troops must be indoctrinated not to deface original markings on materiel at the time of its capture.
Care must be taken to ensure that items are not retained as souvenirs, nor destroyed unnecessarily by
the capturing unit.
