Target Acquisition Battery (TAB). The DIVARTY also has a target acquisition
battery assigned to it as a subordinate unit.
The TAB has six primary
functions which include:
Acquire counterfire and other targets.
Collect battlefield information.
Register FA weapons.
Adjust FA weapons fire.
Verify the locations of nuclear bursts fired by friendly forces.
In order to accomplish these functions, the TAB is equipped with five
weapons-locating radars and one ground-based moving-target-locating radar.
The TAB is controlled by the division artillery. Any TAB element may also
be attached to or operationally controlled by a field artillery battalion,
FA brigade headquarters, or any one of its battalions.
Primary Division Artillery Equipment.
The primary artillery pieces of
division artillery include the multiple launch rocket system battery and the
155-mm SP battalion.
