The AN/TVS-5 crew-served weapons night vision sight (Figure 2-3) is a lightweight, battery-powered, telescope-
type, passive sight. The sight has a 9-degree field of view. With suitable brackets, the AN/TVS-5 will mount on
the M19M2 .50 cal machine gun, M139 20mm weapon system, and M40A1 106mmn recoilless rifle. The range of
the AN/TVS-5 is 1,200 meters (moonlight) and 1,000 meters (starlight) for vehicle size targets. The sight weighs
7 pounds, 11 ounces.
For aimed fire, the AN/TVS-5 is mounted on, and boresighted to the weapon, usually a machine gun or 106mm
recoilless rifle, but sometimes antiaircraft guns or other weapons and/or weapon systems. When tripod mounted,
it is placed on the best available vantage point overlooking the terrain of interest to assist the user in his primary
mission.
