IPB is directed by the G2/S2, assisted by OB technicians, intelligence analysts of
the all-source production section (ASPS), the terrain team, and the United States
Air Force (USAF) weather team. The G2 ensures the intelligence needs of the
command are met. The ASPS assembles threat data, integrates it with weather and
terrain information, and converts it to graphics.
The terrain team analyzes the weather and terrain effects and the impact it has on
tactical operations. It develops and produces the weather and terrain effects
overlay. The engineer topographic battalion at echelons above corps (EAC) supports
the terrain team at corps. Division terrain teams are supported by corps.
The weather team, collocated with the terrain team and commanded by the staff
weather officer (SWO), provides timely and accurate weather products to the
supported Army unit. It draws upon the resources of the USAF Air Weather Service
(AWS) to obtain historical, current, and projected weather conditions information
throughout the AO.
