INTRODUCTION
Intelligence about the capabilities and materiel of potential enemies is necessary so that
countermeasures may be developed. Information about nuclear attacks and the presence of NBC
contamination is vital in order for commanders to take proper defensive measures to avoid casualties.
PART A: NBC INTELLIGENCE PURPOSE AND LIMITATIONS
A successful NBC Defense depends upon the knowledge of the Threat Force capability and intent to
use NBC weapons. United States policy concerning the use of NBC weapons makes it imperative that
the intention of Threat Nations to use them against us be detected as soon as possible. Even in
peacetime, commanders and intelligence staff officers must continually search for information
concerning Threat NBC capabilities and a willingness to employ these weapons.
