1. NBC Intelligence Planning.
On the basis of intelligence or other indicators, the defense planners make estimates of the overall
threat and determines the degree of preparedness necessary to meet it. Functions relating to NBC
Defense is handled by intelligence officers (S2/G2).
NBC Defense staff must:
Collect Threat NBC information, converting into intelligence, and disseminating the information.
Recommend NBC Essential Elements of Information (EEI).
Supervise and coordinate predictions of fallout from Threat nuclear weapons and downwind
hazard predictions for Threat chemical and biological attacks.
Monitor the status of critical MOS.
Supervise the preparation of reports of Threat NBC attacks.
Recommend unit or individual replacements.
Recommend operational exposure guidance.
The intelligence planning at division in preparation for combat is based on the plans of the next higher
headquarters. The same planning phases are applicable, although the preliminary phase will be
considerably shortened. In addition to absorbing and disseminating the intelligence made available as
a result of intelligence activities at higher headquarters, the division G2 develops intelligence
requirements, levies requests for information, and exploits any other sources available. In view of the
reduced time to prepare for combat, the division G2 must keep informed about planning at next higher
command.
2. Intelligence Production.
All NBC Defense information is passed through command echelons to division levels for the production
of NBC Intelligence. It is processed as it is received without waiting for additional information. The
