Background
You make your papers effective by writing so that your readers understand exactly
what you mean to say. The lesson covers three major points:
Researching your subject.
Organizing your material and preparing to write.
Using an expository, or explanatory, approach to writing about your subject.
The key points in researching your subject are:
Research your
subject
Define the problem.
List the main issues essential to solving the problem.
Determine which issues need research.
Identify sources of information.
Examine references for relevant material.
Prepare bibliography cards as aids to locating references.
Use note cards cross-referenced to the bibliography cards.
Use a survey or interview to obtain additional information.
Test your research by drawing conclusions and ask if you have sufficient facts to
support your conclusions.
