An air assault battalion
may be assigned any of the standard combat missions. Its primary mission is
to close with the enemy by means of fire and maneuver in order to destroy or
capture him. The mission also includes repelling his assault by fire, close
combat, and counterattack. The air assault battalion is particularly suited
for offensive or delay missions where its mobility can be exploited to the
greatest advantage.
