Heavy Division Tank (Armor) Battalion
The other type of maneuver battalion found in the heavy division is the tank
battalion. Figure 8 depicts the organization of the armor battalion. It is
organized with a headquarters and headquarters company (HHC) and four tank
companies.

The HHC performs the same functions as the HHC in the heavy division
mechanized maneuver battalion.
The tank battalion (J-series) consists of
six 107-mm mortars and a scout platoon equipped with six cavalry fighting
It has been enhanced to provide sufficient assets for continuous operations.
Support has been oriented to weapon systems and forward arming, fueling,
fixing, and feeding.
Tank Company. As previously stated and illustrated in Figure 8, the armor
battalion consists of four tank companies.
The tank company consists of
three platoons with four tanks each.
It also includes a company
headquarters with two tanks.
Company and battalion commanders and their executive officers have
each been provided a tank so they can position forward and provide the
