US ARMY ORGANIZATION/CAPABILITIES
OVERVIEW
The purpose of this learning event is to examine the
fundamentals of corps
and division structure. You will see how the various
US Army divisions are
structured and how they perform their missions as part
of the Army's AirLand
Battle doctrine. The US Army Corps will be discussed,
and the types of Army
divisions and the division base will be presented.
LEARNING EVENT 1
Purpose
The purpose of this learning event is to provide you with a fundamental
knowledge of US Army organization and capabilities. Knowledge gained from
this lesson will help you understand how the Army is generally organized to
Evolution of Army Organization
As a matter of historical background, we will briefly review how our Army
evolved to where it is today.
We will review the H-series, Tables of
Organization and Equipment (TOE), the J-series (TOE), and the L-series
(TOE).
H-series TOE.
By the early 1970s, it became apparent that the Army
division structure had to be restrained to approximately 16,000.
Structuring for enlargement was desired. New technology was a factor in
looking at restructuring of the Army.
The Army was now in process of
initiating development of the M1 tank, M2 fighting vehicle, and AH-64.
