There are two combat units in the division base.
The two units are the
division cavalry squadron, and one attack helicopter battalion of the
aviation brigade. The 11 to 15 combat maneuver battalions are not part of
the division base. They are assigned to the division.
The standard allocation to the mechanized division is 10 battalions (5
mechanized battalions and 5 tank battalions).
The standard allocation to
the armor division is 10 battalions (4 mechanized battalions and 6 tank
battalions).
The division could control five more maneuver battalions if the mission
required so.
It would also depend on the availability of the battalions.
The combat maneuver battalions are assigned to the division based on mission
requirements.
The combat support units in the division base include the following:
o
Division artillery.
o
Engineer battalion.
o
Signal battalion.
o
Air defense battalion.
o
support units of the division base. Figure 5 shows the DISCOM for the heavy
divisions. The DISCOM may vary from division to division. The DISCOM shown
here is representative of a type DISCOM.
The DISCOM Structure for the Heavy Divisions have a Fire Support Base (FSB).
The DISCOM Structure for the Light Forces still uses a Field Artillery
