Note that the division mission has two parts. First, the division destroys
enemy forces. This means not only the ability of the enemy to fight, but
also his will to fight.
Secondly, the division also controls land areas,
including populations and resources. This mission is common to all types of
divisions in the force structure, regardless of geography or the intensity
of the conflict.
Types of Army Divisions. The US Army has to be prepared to go anywhere. It
must be prepared to fight in various locations and situations. Therefore,
there are six different types of divisions. The six divisions include:

Infantry.
o
o
Armored.
o
Mechanized.
o
Airborne.
o
Air Assault (AASLT).

The Division Base--Elements
All divisions have a base.
The elements of a division base for a heavy
division consist of the following:

Command and control headquarters.
o
Combat support.
o
Combat service support units.
