PART D -THE AN/VDR-2 RADIAC SET
In order to understand the functions of the AN/VDR-2 RADIAC Set you
must be able to describe its purpose, characteristics, principles of
operation, and total dose range.
1.
Purpose.
The AN/VDR-2 RADIAC Set, (Figure 5-11), is used to locate and measure
instrument displays dose rates and total accumulated dose resulting
from a fallout field.
2.
Characteristics.
The AN/VDR-2 RADIAC Set is battery-operated by three 9-volt batteries
or by vehicle power and has the capability of alerting personnel to
contamination of gamma rays or beta particles by a visual or audible
alarm. The instrument features a liquid crystal display (LCD), which
provides a three-digit auto-ranging readout, with decimal point
placement for dose rate and accumulated dose measurement.
