When there is no danger from chemical contamination, verified by the
use of the unit's M256A1 Chemical Agent Detector Kits, if troops are
required to operate at moderate to heavy work rates, the commander may
authorize them to progressively reduce their protection. The stages
of progressive reduction are:
Open the zipper of the hood (and possibly roll it up) for
ventilation.
Remove the protective gloves.
Remove the protective mask and hood.
Open the duty uniform or the chemical protective clothing for
ventilation. This will require the loosening or removal of
external load-bearing equipment.
Remove some or all of the protective clothing.
Reduced protection also is permitted on a selective basis for
personnel performing certain tasks requiring use of the hands to
perform tedious tasks, good vision, and voice communication. It may
also be necessary after considering the psychological effects on
personnel in full chemical protective clothing and equipment for
extended periods.
Since you have learned the purpose, fundamentals and implementation of
Mission-Oriented Protective Posture (MOPP), you need to learn about
advising the commander on the NBC situation and using chemical and
radiological equipment. Chemical equipment is discussed in Lesson 4
and radiological equipment is discussed in Lesson 5.
