The primary mission of the headquarters, headquarters and service company is to provide overall support to the
battalion and other companies.
The collection and jamming (C&J) company is responsible for providing support to division assets.
The electronic warfare (EW) company is responsible for providing analysis, noncommunication intercept, and
signals intelligence (SIGINT) teams in support of division assets.
The I&S company consists of four platoons (Figure 1-2). The I&S company provides counterintelligence (CI),
interrogator, and ground surveillance assets to the division or separate brigade.

The AN/PPS-5 (SERIES) is a portable, battery-powered, doppler radar set which can be used in battlefield
surveillance to locate and identify moving ground targets at ranges up to 10,000 meters. It presents targets as
bright spots on a B-scope display, as waveforms on an A-scope display, as headset signals, and a meter pointer
deflection. The AN/PPS-5 (SERIES) radar set can be remoted up to 15 meters (49 feet).
