The AN/PPS-15A(V) 1 presents detected target information in the following ways--
* Characteristic sounds in electrical headsets (primary method).
* Light bar displays PEAKING indicator dots on control-indicator (C-I).
* Four-digit numeric electronic readout of range information on range meter indicator.
* Alarm circuits provide audible and visual indications by an alarm speaker and blinking alarm indication
lamp.
Range information is accurate within 20 meters. Target range resolution is within 35 meters.
An azimuth is the most common military method of expressing a direction and defined as a horizontal angle,
measured in a clockwise manner (degree or mils), from a base north line (observer) to the target.
The available azimuth on the AN/PPS-15A(V) 1 is 0 to 6400 mils or 0 to 360. The radar's azimuth setting is
displayed on a digital indicator on the C-I. The automatic sector scan width has two settings: NARROW provides
sector scan width of 800 to 1000 mils, and WIDE provides sector scan width of 1600 to 2000 mils. The azimuth
center scan can be set to any desired azimuth. Azimuth is accurate within 10 mils. Scan rate is 90 mils per
second (9 mils). Azimuth resolution is possible within 100 mils.
The AN/PPS-15A(V) 1 elevation can be manually set anywhere in the range of +400 to -600 mils. Elevation can
be read on the calibrated elevation scale on the antenna drive assembly.
The AN/PPS-15A(V) 1 can track moving targets going 0.5 to 35 miles per hour across the area being scanned by
the radar. The radar can also be remoted up to 8 meters (26 feet).
An experienced operator can assemble and begin radar operation in two minutes. The operator can unpack and
set up the radar for tripod-mounted, close-coupled operation in the same amount of time.
