INTRODUCTION
Weather and terrain have more effect on battles than any other physical factor, to
include weapons, equipment, and supplies. The terrain on which battles are fought
will present opportunities for both sides. Most battles have been won by the side
that used terrain to protect itself and to reinforce the effects of fires used to
destroy the enemy. To be effective, commanders must understand the aspect of
terrain.
