AIRBORNE DIVISION
As with all division bases, included are headquarters, combat support, and
combat service support elements. Using the heavy division as our reference,
there are a number of significant differences in the airborne division.
These differences include:
o
The aircraft maintenance company was moved from the aviation
battalion to the Division Support Command (DISCOM) in the light
infantry and the airborne divisions.
o
The combat Aviation Brigade (AVN BDE) conducts Air assault/Air
mobile Operation. It also provides Attack Helicopter Units for
rapid employment as part of a combined arms team to destroy enemy
forces.
o
The Attack Helicopter Battalion of the AVN BDE provides security
for all air assault forces, aerial support for the airborne
division, and aerial security for the airborne division.
o
There are two assault
helicopter
companies
assigned
to
the
airborne division.
