d. Warsaw Pact Marker.
A rectangular Warsaw Pact marker (Figure 3-9) measures either 13-1/2
inches by 15-1/2 inches or 9 inches by 12 inches. Letters are black
against a red background. A smaller rectangle on the left side of
each sign indicates the type of contamination. The notation 3APAXEHO
(contaminated) appears across the top of the sign in black letters on
a red background. A smaller rectangle on the left side of the sign
indicates the type of contamination --OB for chemical, PB for
radiation, and B for biological. Warning information is hand
lettered. At a distance of more than about 23 meters, the black
letters against the red background are difficult to read; however, the
symbols indicating the type of contamination are legible at a much
greater distance.

Warsaw Pact Marker
After Warsaw Pact troops place standard warning signs or markers
around the periphery of the contaminated area, they decontaminate a
passage through the area. Then they place warning signs (Figure 3-10)
at each end of the passage through the contaminated area.
