All soldiers should roll down their sleeves and button
up their shirts so that no skin shows.

the area of highest dose rate.

Soldiers should close all vehicle doors, windows, and
hatches.

If possible, soldiers should prepare vehicles with

Designated individuals should prepare to monitor

a. Crossing a Radiologically Contaminated Area.
When your unit is crossing a contaminated area, follow these
procedures:

Cross as rapidly as possible, but avoid stirring up

Do not touch anything you can avoid in the area.
Step 3.
Monitor RADIACmeters and dosimeters closely. If your
unit received a radiation reading that it should not
exceed, do not exceed that reading without permission.
b. Actions After Crossing the Area.
After your unit has determined that it has reached the far side of the
contaminated area, it should ensure a minimum of casualties by
following these procedures:

Check for casualties and symptoms of radiation
poisoning.
Step 2.
Step 3.
the AN/PDR-27 RADIACmeter. Perform decontamination
procedures when possible.
Step 4.
Report radiation dose readings from the dosimeter to
your supervisor.
