Weapon Systems.
As shown in Figure 21, the major weapon systems of the
battalion include the following:
o
6 M-60, 60-mm mortars.
o
18 Medium Antitank Weapons (MAWs).
o
4 TOWs.
o
4 81-mm mortars.
Aviation Brigade (DIV).
The aviation brigade (AVN BDE) takes on a
tremendous amount of importance in terms of what it provides the division.
This is due to the strict nature of combat, combat support, and combat
service support units on the light infantry division.
The combat aviation brigade (DIV) combines under one command.
Its primary
missions are:
o
To conduct air mobile and logistic operations.
o
o
Battlefield mobility.
o
Destruction of enemy forces.
Figure 22 depicts the
organization
of
the
AVN
BDE.
It
contains
the
following elements:
o
A headquarters and headquarters company (HHC).
o
A divisional cavalry squadron.
o
An attack helicopter battalion.
o
Two assault helicopter companies.
