Requirements for doctrinal templates of battlefield systems are also identified.
The functional system templates generally expand information reflected in the
primary doctrinal templates. For example, a template depicting a threat division
in a river-crossing may be expanded by a subset depicting the use of bridging and
pontoon equipment. However, not every possible enemy action and subset can be
templated.
A matrix is an easy way to lay out the information to be analyzed. Look for the
battlefield systems that will tell you the most about how the enemy operates (see
Table 4-2).
